Essences are usually more runny than serums or ampoules in consistency, and the active ingredient concentrations are not as high. Essences contain more moisturizing and nourishing ingredients than toners. Pat the product onto the face with your hands. Always patch test new products to ensure they suit your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Apply a small amount to an area like the neck and wait 24–48 hours to check for any reactions.

If skin irritation, such as redness, swelling or itching occurs after use or exposure to sunlight, stop use of the product and consult a doctor if necessary. Do not use for broken skin.
